PEDERZANIS TAKE FIRST PLACE ON CHOKE CANYON
Only
seven teams showed up for the tournament on Choke last Saturday as work
schedules, family commitments and inclement weather were major
detractors. Those of us that fished found the wind and waves to
be quite challenging. Gail and I were very fortunate to find an
area in 4 Fingers that was manageable even though we had to tie up to
trees on several occasions. We stayed in the same area for the
majority of the tournament and fished the edge of the grass
with Sinko type baits. The fishing was very slow but we did
manage to get a limit and take first place honors with 12.18
pounds. Gail was pretty happy as we each caught 4 keepers with
hers outweighing mine significantly especially with her 4.81
pounder that captured Women's Big Bass. However our excitement
was somewhat dampend on our way back to the boat ramp as we took a
Tsunami over the front of the boat that went completely over our heads.
It took 15 minutes to bilge out all the water. This is why
we decided to pull out t of the lake at 10 to 2 even though the weigh
in wasn't until 3:30. Other boats experienced similar
difficulties coming back to the boat ramp. Pete told me they
took water over the front at least three times.Second
and Third place was pretty close with Parish/Killough weighing in 5.76
while Lentz weighed in 5.18 pounds. There was more excitement in
the Men's Big Bass race as Joe weighed in first with a 2.61 then Allen
weighed in a 2.74 with Brent weighing in last with a 2.75, just
0.01 pounds more than Allen. I think this is the second time this
has happened to Allen. Allen said if it wasn't for bad luck he
wouldn't have any luck at all.
The race for Anglers of the Year
is pretty close with the Pederzanis only 4 points ahead of the Lentz.
Anglers of the Year will be determined at our next tournament as
it is the last tournament of the year. There is another close
race going on for 4th place as Connells are ahead of Trevinos by only 1
point. This is interesting as these two couples have been in the
club for a long time and always have a little side bet between them.
Good luck to both of you.
Not a lot of photos this time but here are a couple for your enjoyment.
Congratulations to all.

LOGANS TAKE TOP HONORS AT FALCON
Allen
Logan and his Dad Louie, who was filling in for Josie, took first
place and Men's Big Bass honors at the Fall two day tournament held at
Lake Falcon on November 1st and 2nd, 2008. They weighed in a 5
bass limit both days with a total weight of 42.37 pounds with a 9.25
lunker. It had to be a great weekend for Allen, fishing with his
Dad, taking first place in the tournament, winning Sundays big bass
pot, winning Men's Big Bass of the tournament, and Texas Tech beating
UT. What a great weekend for the Logans. Congratulations.Second
place honors went to Pat and Jerry as they limited both days with a
total weight of 41.91 pounds just .46 behind the first place team.
They had excellent fish both days with Jerry taking Saturday's
big bass side pot with a 6.30 bass and Pat took Women's Big Bass for the
tournament with a 7.70 pounder she caught on Sunday.
Congratulations to both of you.Third
place goes to the always consistent team of Alic and Luther Lents with
a two day limit at 35.26 pounds. This team is awesome as they
always find a way to finish in the top three positions in most of our
tournaments. I think there is only one exception to this for the
entire year. It is no surprise that they are back in the lead for
Angler of the Year. Congratulations, you guys are great. The
Davis' and Parish/Killough round out the top five teams weighing in
over 30 pounds. Brenda and Cliff had a total weight of
32.07 pounds with Sunday being their better day having 20.04 of the
32.07. Brent and Leslie had similar results 17 of their 30 pounds
also came on Sunday. Leslie weighed in a 5.54 on Saturday and was in
the lead for Women's Big Bass. Brent weighed in a nice 6.98 on
Sunday. Bottom line is we had five teams weighing in over 30
pounds for the two day tournament. The weights kind of fell off
after that.TOOLS MAKE THE DIFFERENCE.
Thats right tools can make a difference. Just ask Marilyn.
On Saturday Joe and Marilyn struggled only weighing in 1 fish.
However on Sunday Marilyn took out her I Phone and
downloaded an aerial image of the lake and showed Joe a channel that
lead into the bushes were he caught several fish weighing in a
limit of 12.82 pounds. Best turnaround of the
tournament.All
in all
I think everyone had a great time. We stayed at the
Sunbridge Inn and Suite and the accomodations and service were great.
We highly recommend this motel if you are staying in Zapata.
We
also appreciated all the advice and help the Lake Falcon Tackle shop
provided us. James and Tommy Bendele are the owners and are great
guys. They were very helpful in where to fish and what to use.
Stop in to say hi if you go to Falcon.

BRENT COMES TO THE RESCUE ON FALCON
Lets
see, I think the story goes like this. Robert and Lesli were
down the lake in fron of School Bus Cove when he realized he was
running out of
gas on the 1st tank. He switched to the second tank as it
was
full. OOPs, this didn't work as the engine would not run.
Although the tank was full it was not providing gas to the
engine. Float problem. Robert called Adam, a friend from
Austin that happened to be on the lake, and asked him for help.
Adam went down the lake to help Robert. Wouldn't you know,
Adam also ran out of gas when he got there. Robert remembered
Brent was still on
the lake and called him for help. Brent became the hero of the
day as he towed both boats back to the boat ramp. Brent said you
don't realize how big Falcon is until you go from Schoollhouse Cove to
the County boat ramp at 5 miles
per hour towing two boats. Good job Brent.Robert and Lesli along with Adam and his partner being towed

Brent and his partners
Now
for the rest of the story. Gail gave me a trip to Falcon
for my birthday . I invited my son Kevin and his friend Darrel to
join me. We went to Falcon on October 15th and came home on the
17th. We met Robert and Lesli along with Brent and his partner at
the lake. It was a great time for all of us. While the
fishing was slow for numbers it was great for quality. Many of
the fish caught were in the 4 to 9 pound range. Kevin had a 7, 7,
and 8 pounder in three successive days. I struggled a little as
I only had 3 bass on Wed, 5 on Thur (12 hours) and 6 on Fri (10
hours). You need to understand that part of the reason for
my low numbers is that I was fishing double used water
as Kevin and Darrel were in the front of the boat. Joe knows what I am talking about. As I said
earlier, low in numbers but many of them were in the 4
to 6 pound range. We caught most of our fish in 5 to 15 feet of
water with spinnerbaits early and plastic later in the day.
The fish were scattered as we caught only one or two in any given
place and we covered a lot of water. We had a great time, best
birthday gift ever. Here are a few photos.Lesli with a nice bass. She also caught bigger ones.

Robert struggling to stay ahead of Lesli

Brent with a nice 7 or 8 pounder

Larry with a couple of the smaller bass

Son Kevin with an 8 pounder (I know he isn't in the club but Kevin is to
me as Smudge is to Joe and Marilyn)

I thought it was the boat than ran out of gas. Oh well, it was his honeymoon

A great time was had by all.

CLIFF LANDS BIG REDFISH ON COAST
Cliff
went to the coast to visit his son John and his nephew Darrel who came
in form Minnesota. The three of them went to Port O'Connor to do
a little fishing. They had to stay in the bay area as they
were in a pretty small boat. After fishing for a while Cliff
decided to put a Piggy Perch on his hook, threw it in the water,
then laid down in the boat for a little rest. It wasn't
very long when the other two guys started hollering to cliff that his
line was going out like a bullet. Cliff immediately responded and
after a 15 minute battle he managed to land a Redfish that was
well over twenty pounds. Now that is what I call a great fishing
strategy. Congratulations Cliff.

DAVIS' CASH IN AT CAST ON AMISTAD Brenda
and Cliff Davis finished in 16th place at the CAST Championship held on
Lake Amistad last Saturday and Sunday, October 4th and 5th. They
weighed in over 23 pounds for their two day total finishing ahead of
another 124 boats as there were 140 boats in the tournament. They
took home a check for $250 for this 16th place finish. Brenda
said the check along with the fishing rod they won at the drawing
barely covered the motel bill. The
fishing was pretty tough for most of us as it was pretty
windy on Saturday and even worse on Sunday not to mention the lake
level is the highest it has ever been. Big bass for 140 boats onSaturday
was only 6.5 pounds which is pretty small for Amistad. I don't
know what it was for Sunday but my guess is it wasn't any bigger. The
good news, bad news, for Rosemarie and Pete is Rosemarie caught an 8
pounder during prefishing on Thursday. If caught on Saturday
or Sunday it would have been big bass for the tournament.
Congratulations Rosemarie.lgp
MR AND MRS BASS CLUB MEMBER CASHES IN ON TABC TOP 8
Thats
right, Alice and Luther Lentz take Big Bass pot for Saturday with Luther's
5.68 pound bass on Stillhouse Hollow. This is fantastic being
that they were competing against 96 other boats, 192 fisher people, on
both Belton and Stillhouse. Luther said the cash is going to come
in handy for their trip to Amistad which is the very next weekend where
they will be fishing in the CAST Championship. The Pederzanis,
Trevinos, and Davis' will also be fishing in the CAST Championship
tournament. With Alice and Luther in the same tournament the most
we can hope for is 2nd place or maybe 2nd Big Bass if there is such an
award. I don't know how to write this with the proper emphasis
but Alice and Luther are awesome fisher people and great to be around.
As
for the rest of the Mr and Mrs teams the B team finished 14th with the
A team finishing in 17th place and the C team right behind them in
18th. Congratulations to all.
Here are a few pictures from the Top 8 Tournament:

CAST Top Six on LBJ
Four
members of the Mr and Mrs Bass Club (2 teams) participated in the CAST
Top Six Couples Tournament held on Lake LBJ this past weekend.
They were Alice and Luther Lentz and Brenda and Cliff
Davis. They were part of the Capital Region team which consisted
of 4
other couples making up the top six . Alice and
Luther may of had the best stringer as they weighed in over
15 pounds which is great especially on LBJ. Luther had a 5
pounder and Alice had one over 6. They are awesome!!!! The
team will not know how they finished in the tournament until it is
announced at the Championship Tournament at Amistad. They
competed against 8 other regions. The Top Six Tournament is a
winner take all so lets hope the Capital Region Team takes first
place honors. Congratulations to all.

Awesome, Awesome, Awesome,
Congratulations
JOSIE AND ALLEN TAKE 1ST PLACE HONORS ON BELTON
Josie
and Allen Logan beat out `12 other teams to take first place
honors at the September Club Tournament on Lake Belton, Saturday,
6 September 2008. They weighed in a limit of bass weighing 12.52
pounds. It is my understanding Josie had 4 keepers in the boat
before Allen got his first. She also had the biggest bass in
their bag. Allen then decided to fish with the same kind of bait
Josie was using and commenced to bring in additional keepers. Nice
going Josie and Allen. Congratulations to both of you.Second
place honors went to Alice and Luther Lentz with Brenda and Cliff
taking third place. You can count on these two teams
finishing at the top in most of the tournaments. They are both
very consistent at bringing in limits of bass regardless of what lake
we might be fishing. Women's Big Bass went to Alice while Men's
big Bass was taken by Pete Trevino. Detailed weights and photos
are on the Tournament Results page. Congratulations to all the
winners.
We had another good turnout with 13 teams
participating in the tournament. They were Baker/Call,
Brown/Clark, Connell, Davis, Fowler, Gold, Lentz, Logan, Mehaffey,
Pederzani, Summers, Trevino, and Whisenant. While the last two
tournaments had excellent turnouts I am anticipating 19 boats at our
next tournament which will be a two day tournament on Lake Falcon.
The
weigh-in went very good thanks to Luther and Robert. Fortunately
we had very few casualties and no dead fish went back into the
lake. Luther wants to make a couple more minor adjustments to the
weigh-in procedures and will discuss them with us at the next meeting.
Again, lets thank Luther and Robert for an excellent job.Well
if the fishing on Lake Belton wasn't challenging enough the parking at
the Cedar Ridge boat ramp sure was. We may all want to launch at
other ramps for the TABC Tournament.Cedar Ridge Boat Ramp

CONNELLS TAKE ALL HONORS AT STILLHOUSE CLUB TOURNAMENT
Marilyn
and Joe Connell took First Place, Men's Big Bass, and Women's Big Bass
honors at the August club tournament held on Sillhouse last Saturday,
August 16, 2008. Their total weight was an outstanding 22.80
pounds which included a 5.97 for Joe and a 6.80 pounder for
Marilyn which was also the biggest bass of the tournament. This
is their first win since joining the club 6 years ago. This was
especially exciting for Marilyn as this
is her personal best and she is leading the club for Women's Big
Bass of
the Year. They actually thought they had 25 pounds but Joe
had to throw back the 2 lb rock that Marilyn netted for him (lol).
Congratulations to Joe and Marilyn and double congratulations to
Marilyn for her personal best.Second Place went to the
Pederzanis with 20.24 and third was taken by the Golds with 16.62.
Detailed results are on the Tournament Results Page.
Everyone weighed in fish except for the Bohmers. The reason
the Bohmers were unable to weigh in fish is they had nothing but
problems with the boat and spent most of the time trying to fix them.
They finally gave up and went home early. We sure hope they
have better luck at the next tournament.Fourteen teams
participated in the tournament. They were the Connells,
Pederzanis, Davis', Baker, Barris' , Bohmers, Brown/Clark, Golds,
Lentzs, Parish/Killough, Schremps, Summers, Trevino.s and Tyree/Hannel.
With 14 teams participating I beleive this was our largest
tournament of the year. The tournament ran from 4:00 AM through
Noon and the weigh-in was held at Stillhous Hollow Marina. We had
lunch at the Marina. I hope everyone enjoyed the tournament and
the meal.We should take this opportunity to welcome our newest
couple to the club. They are Brent Parish and Leslie Killough
who joined just prior to the tournament. They fished the
tournament with us and had 5 bass weighing 11.24 pounds.
Congratulations and welcome to the club.

Bass ChUmps on Lake Austin
Robert
Brown and I (Larry) fish the Bass ChUmps Tournament on Lake Austin Last
Friday night. A total of 10 boats participated in the tournament.
The tournament ran from 8:00 pm Friday through 8:00 am Saturday.
It was a very long night especially for old people. We had
a pretty productive night as we caught 12 to 14 keepers and most of
them were quality bass. We had a limit by midnight and were
culing out 3 lb bass by early morning. We took 2nd place with 20lbs and 8 oz, missing 1st by only 3 ozs. Robert
had a unique experience as he had two nice bass on a top water (Pop R)
at the same time. However, he only got one of them into the boat as the
other came off right at the boat. I caught all of my fish with a
rattle snake while Robert caught them on multiple baits. We
caught most of the keepers off boat docks between the 360 bridge
and Emma Long Park. Here is a picture of our weigh-in.
The
bass Robert is holding in his right hand is the one I caught right
behind another tournament bass boat while they were tied up to a dock
and were sleeping. Never woke them up. PEDERZANIS TAKE 1ST ON LAKE AUSTIN
Larry
and Gail Pederzani took first place honors at the club
tournament held on Lake Austin last Saturday, July, 12/13, 2008. They
weighed in 5 bass for a total weight of 19.93 pounds. They also
took Women and Men's Big Bass Honors with bass weighing 4.88 and
6.13 pounds. Alice and Luther Lentz were only ounces behind them
with 19.19 pounds netting second place. They are, without question, the
most consistent team in our club which is why they were Anglers of the
Year last year and are again leading the competition for 2008.
Third place went to Tim Baker who fished alone and weighed
in four bass for 13.99 pounds. Congratulations to
all the winners. See details and photos on Tournament
Results page. It
was a night tournament that started at 11:00 PM on Saturday and
ran until 9:00 AM Sunday with 12 teams participating in the tournament.
They were Tyree/Hannel, Lentz, Pederzani, Davis, Baker,
Fowler,/Hartgrove, Summers, Brown/Clark, Connell, Gold, Schrempp, and
Trevino. While it seemed like a long night for some it
seemed even longer for others as only two limits were weighed in.
However, many of the bass weighed in were over 3 pounds.
Quality always beats quantity. While many of the women
weighed in bass I must point out that this is the second month in a row
that Lesli has carried her partner in two out of the last three tournaments. Keep up the good work Lesli.
It was nice to see Justin and Amy at there first
weigh-in. Congratulations.This
was the last tournament to determine the team members for the TABC
Tournament. There will be three teams which will consist of 4
couples each. Teams are:| TEAM 1 | TEAM 2 | TEAM 3 |
| Alice & Luther Lentz | Lesli Clark & Robert Brown
| Donna Hannel & Jim Tyree |
| Gail & Larry Pederzani | Marilyn & Joe Connell | Patricia & Jerry Gold |
| Brenda & Cliff Davis | Tim Baker & Tina Call | Vicki & Garry Schrempp |
| Rosemarie & Pete Trevino | Glenda & Allen Summers | Josie & Allen Logan |
Candee
and Jason Barris will be our 1st alternate and Amy and Justin Fowler
will be our 2nd alternate. If you are unable to participate in
the TABC tournament please let us know as soon as possible to enable
the alternates to make appropriate plans.
We
can't thank our sponsors enough because without them we would not be
able to send 12 couples to the TABC Championship this year. We
were all happily suprised to see one of our sponsors, George Hudgins,
at our brunch following the tournament. It is great to have
sponsors such as George and we're very grateful for his support.
Following are a few pictures of the tournament for you to enjoy. And a couple of noteworthy pictures:
Geez Leslie, I did the best I could! | Gosh, where did everyone go? |
Hope to see everyone at the next meeting on August 5th.lgpGOLDS HAVE GREAT DAY ON TRAVIS
Pat and Jerry Gold had a great day during our club tournament on Lake Travis last Saturday, June 28th.
They
weighed in five Bass for a total weight of 17.42 pounds which was over
6 pounds ahead of the second place team. They also captured
both Men and Women's Big Bass for the tournament. Second place
went to Glenda and Allen Summers with third place going to Gail and
Larry Pederzani. See details on Tournament Results page of this
website.
We had 12 teams participating in this tournament.
They were Team Summers, Team Davis, Team Gold, Team
Pederzani, Team Baker/Call, Team Brown/Clark, Team Lentz, Team Connell,
Team Tyree/Hannel, Team Fowler/Hartgrove, Team Trevino and Team
Jenkins. It was the first club tournament for the
Fowler/Hartgrove team who experienced problems with their boat and were
unable to come to the weigh-in. They did report that they were
off to a good start as they had already caught three nice bass before
having to pull their boat out of the lake. Hopefully things
work out better for them at our next tournament.
Fishing was
fair to good for most of the teams as eight limits were weighed in.
The weather started out pretty nice then the wind took over.
Between the wind and the boat traffic on the lake the ride back
to the boat ramp was pretty challenging.
The highlight of
the day was celebrating Allen Summer's birthday at Johnny Finns and
presenting him an award for his outstanding contributions to the club.
He is personally responsible for getting sponsorships that
will allow the majority of the club members to participate in the TABC
Top 8 Tournament this fall. We thank Allen very much for this
outstanding accomplishment.
CONGRATULATIONS ALLEN

LOGANS HAVE A GREAT TIME ON FALCON
Allen,
Josie, and Josie's brother had a great time on Lake Falcon this past
weekend, June 21/22. They caught around 15 to 20 bass on Saturday
and over 40 on Sunday which is outstanding especially since they
only fished from 7:30 to 11:30 on Sunday. What a great day that
had to be. They caught several fish in the 5 to 6 pound range
with a couple that were over 7 pounds. Both Josie's and
Allen's largest bass were well over 9 or maybe even over 10
pounds. You be the judge (see photos). They fished all the
way from Beacon lodge to the Tiger on both the U.S. and Mexican sides
of the lake. They caught most of their fish on
10"power worms and DD22 crank baits in 3 to 15' of water. They
caught the two biggest fish off of
OUR spot, actually the spot that Allen took me to during the TABC Tournament.
Congratulations to Allen and Josie and thanks for sharing the information a photos with us.

MMBC TEAMS FINISH NEAR TOP IN CAST ON CHOKE
Three
teams from the Mr a nd Mrs Bass Club fished the CAST Capitol Region
bass tournament on Choke Canyon this past Saturday, 31 May 2008.
Luther and Alice Lentz finished in 2nd place with 13.02 pounds
which was approximately .5 pounds behind the first place team.
Brenda and Cliff Davis were only 0.2 pounds behind Lentz with
13.00 pounds for their total weight and they captured 3rd place.
Glenda and Allen Summers weighed in over 12 pounds and may
have gotten 4th. Sounds like everyone had a good time. I
herd the Friday night meal was outstanding. Congratulations to
all.
Robert Brown was also fishing on Thursday and Friday
practicing for Bass Champs. He had to come home early Friday as
he was having motor problems. It appears he was also being
challenged by an alligator up in four fingers. He saw the
alligator coming towards him so he went to the opposite side of the
cove. Apparently the gator wasn't happy with this an turned to
head towards his boat again. Robert decided the gator didn't
want him in his cove so he got the H-LL our of their.
Here are a few photos from the CAST Tournament:
LENTZ KICK BASS ON CHOKE CANYON
Alice
and Luther Lentz prove again why they are the 2007 Anglers of the year
as they ran away with the tournament on Choke Canyon last Saturday, May
17, 2008. They beat out a
field of 8 other teams with a limit of bass weighing 24.65 pounds.
Within this limit was a bass weighing 9.84 pounds, which took
Men's big Bass honors, and another bass weighing in excess of 7 pounds.
This 9.84 pound bass is Luther's personal best fishing in a
tournament. Congratulations Luther. Second place went to
Brenda and Cliff and third place was taken by Josie and Allen Logan.
All nine teams weighed in a limit of bass. With the
exception of the Lentz most of the team weights were between 12 to 14
pounds. Lesli Clark took Women's big bass with a bass weighing
4.20 pounds. Congratulations Lesli. More details on Tournament Page.
9 teams weighed in a
limit of bass (45 total) for a total weight of 124.86 pounds which gave
us an average of 2.77 pounds per bass for the tournament. We
probably set several records but the one that stands out most is that all 9 teams weighed in a limit.
Needless
to say, Luther and Alice leaped into first place for 2008 Anglers
of the year. They are now 12 points ahead of the second
place team and will be very difficult to catch.. However, Brenda
and Cliff are not to be denied as they gained 15 points which puts them
only 3 points behind second place and are very much in the race.
Overall
the tournament was fun for all with a few exceptions. Logans had
troll motor battery problem and blew out a trailer tire on the way
home. Lentzs' were having problems with their cranking battery. The Pederzanis and Davis" ran through some new road
construction on the way home and are still trying to
get the tar off their boats, trailers and automobiles. All in
all I think we had an excellent tournament.
We would like to
thank our guest, Janna and Donnie McDonald along with Tina and Tony
Allen for sharing their fishing experience with us as they also
had limits of bass. Hope to see them at our next meeting.
Tina and Tony Allen | Janna and Donnie McDonald |
Oh, and here is an uninvited guest.
I
don't know if you can see this alligator but I wasn't going to get any
closer so it will have to do. I was a little nervous but was
O.K. as long as I could see him. As a precaution I sprinkled a
little Garlic Dye on Gail and made her wear a red shirt. I didn't
want to take any chances just in case he decided to attack the boat.
Fortunately (especially for Gail) he continued across the
cove and showed no interest in us.
EVERYONE HAS A LIMIT:
A few additional photos for you to enjoy.
I apologize for some of the photos as I must of had some dirt on the lens. I'll make sure it is clean the next time.
Oh,
by the way Luther, It is O.K. to be proud of your personal best
big bass but this is the first time I have ever seen anyone using a
model to photograph their trophy!!!!!! Congratulations again.
See you all at the next meeting/tournament

MR AND MRS BASS CLUB MEMBERS CASH IN AT BASS CHAMPS
Robert
Brown fishing with Kevin Pederzani finished in 24th place at last
Saturdays Bass Champs tournament held on Lake Belton. They
weighed in 5 bass for a total weight of 13.64 pounds and took home a
check for $600. Larry Pederzani and Allen Logan also weighed in a
limit of bass for 15.7 pounds and tied for seventh place netting
them 1,075 dollars. We (Larry and Allen) had a limit of fish by
7:30 a.m. with a 4 plus Large Mouth and a 3 Plus Smallie. We had
our second limit by 8:30 a.m. and were able to cull out a couple of the
smaller bass. Overall we caught over 18 keepers throughout the
day. We really didn't expect to place in
the money as there were 213 boats entered in the tournament and over
160 weighed in a limit of bass. It just turned out to be a lucky
day for both of us. Oh yes, Allen caught a lot of bass on
top water early in the morning and I threw my usual Tiki bait most of
the day.
We had a great day.
DAVIS AND LENTZ TAKE 2ND AND 3RD
IN MAY CAST TOURNAMENT
Brenda
and Cliff Davis took 2nd place in the May CAST Tournament held on Lake
Stillhouse last Saturday, May 3rd, 2008. They weighed in a limit
of bass that weighed over 14 pounds. Alice and Luther Lentz took
3rd place with a limit weighing over 11 pounds. They are all
deserving a congratulations especially since the winds were in
excess of 30 mph which made the fishing very difficult for most of us.
Brenda also took the Big Bass honors with a bass weighing over 4
pounds. Congratulations to the winners.
Rosemarie
and Pete Trevino also weighed in a limit of bass which was also a great
accomplishment considering the adverse weather conditions. Windy,
windy, Windy, Congratulations

Congratulations to all. See you at the next CAST Tournament which will be on Choke Canyon.
GAIL NEVER LEFT
By Marilyn Connell
Joe
might be back but Gail never left! Gail and Larry fished the
Wednesday night HHJ (austinbassfishing.com) tournament on April 23.
Out of twenty teams who fished, Gail and Larry came in at 6th
place with three fish weighing 11.16 pounds. Gail had two of
those fish with each weighing over 4 pounds! Larry also advised
me that they won the Monday night tournament at Bastrop last Monday
largely due to Gails fish and she also helped put a limit in the
boat at the Decker tournament last Thursday. All in all, Gail had a
great week.
Way to go Gail.
Marilyn
DAVIS' WIN ON STILLHOUSE
Davis'
take first place on Stillhouse with 16.54 pounds. They told
me they had started off a little slow as they only had two
keepers by 10:00 am. They left their favorite spot to see if they
could find fish elsewhere. However when they returned to this
favorite spot later in the day they filled the boat with quality
bass including a 5.54 pounder that gave Brenda Women's Big Bass.
Congratulations to Brenda and Cliff on their first place finish.
We
had a good turn out for the tournament with 11
boats participating. They were Team Davis, Team Pederzani, Team
Lentz Team Baker/Call, Team Summers, Team Trevino, Team Brown/Clark,
Team
Connell, Schrempp, Team Tyree/Hannel, and our newest members
to the club Jason and Candee Baris. Everyone weighed in fish
except for Jason and Candee as they had to leave early due to an
emergency. They did have four keepers as Gail and I watched them
catch at least three of them with one of them looking like a 3+
pounder. While the Davis" dominated the tournament, the
Pederzanis came in second with 16.05 pounds and third place went to
Alice and Luther Lentz with 14.08 pounds. Congratulations.
I
have always felt that if you stick a fish with a hook and he gets away
you will not be able to catch him again that day. I think Luther
has proven this to be a myth. He was fishing a point on the dam
with a Shakyhead using 8 lb line and got a heavy bite. He told Alice to get the
net because he thought he had a 10 pounder. He was very
disappointed as the fish broke his line. He had moved away from
this particular spot only to return later in the day. Again he
got a heavy bite only this time he was able to put the fish in the
boat and it turned out to be a 4 pounder. I know you are already
ahead of me and you are right. This fish not only had one but two
Shakyhead hooks in it's mouth in addition to the one Luther caught it
with. So much for a myth.
All in all I thought it was a
very nice tournament with a lot of quality fish weighed in.
Baker/Call had 13.38 , Connells with 10.58 ,
Brown/Clark with 9.06 and Schrempps with 8.95 pounds. There were
also some very nice individual bass weighed in like Joe with 4.26,
Allen with 3.79, Tim with 3.48. Tina with 2.89 and Vicki with 2.15
pounds. Congratulations to all.
Following are a few
pictures provided by Pete as he was working out his new camera he
received for his birthday. Thanks Pete.
Enjoy,lgp
JOE IS BACK
Look out everyone. Joe is back in the grove. Son
and I fished against Joe in the Saturday big Bass Tourny on Lake
Austin today, April 5, 2008. Not only did he win big Bass with 6+
pounds he also had a limit that would go over 15 pounds. I
don't know how he did this as the rest of us struggled
to get any fish at all. Son and I only had three that wouuld
go between 1.5 and 2 pounds. Joe fished alone and kicked our you know what. Congratulaltions to Joe. Good job.

CAST ON LBJ
The
Capitol Region CAST Tournament for March was held on LBJ Last Saturday,
March 29th. Eleven teams participated in the tournament with five
of them being from the Mr. and Mrs Bass Club which were Brenda and
Cliff, Glenda and Allen, Alice and Luther, Gail and Larry, and
Pete. Fishing conditions were O.K. with an overcast but slightly
chilly day. Fishing results varied from good to not so good
but everyone weighed in fish. Larry and Gail lucked out with a
third place finish, there second in a row. Alice and Luther
are in 2nd place overall after three tournaments. We are all trying to
finish in the top six at the end of the 6 tournament series so we can
participate in the Top Six Tournament. Good luck to all.
21 MINUTES OF GREAT FISHING
That's right, twenty one minutes of great fishing on Lake Austin. Now for the rest of the Story.
Joe
and Marilyn decided to fish Lake Austin yesterday, Saturday March
22nd. They started fishing at 7:30 AM with the intentions of
quitting at noon. They caught a few dinks here and there but had
nothing to brag about. Marilyn wasn't having a very good day so
she was quick to let Joe know when it was noon. In other words,
lets go home. Joe decided to make a few more cast and at 12:12
landed a pretty nice bass. He continued with a few more cast and
landed another nice one at 12:17 and a third nice bass was landed at
12:33. That is 21 minutes of great fishing. This is what brings
us back to the lake time after time. Of course Joe could not have
gotten these three nice bass into the boat without the help of
his professional netter Marilyn. Great fishing Joe.
Congratulations.
SPRING TOURNAMENT AT SAM RAYBURN
We
held our spring two day tournament at Sam Rayburn on the 15th and 16th
of March. Ten teams participated in the tournament and they were
Team Davis, Team Summers, Team Lentz, Team Schrempp, Team Trevino, Team
Baker/Call, Team Tyree/Hannel, Team Brown/Clark, Team Pederzani, and Team Connell.
Some of the teams showed up as early as the previous Sunday while
others didn't get there until the Friday before the tournament.
Those showing up on Friday didn't get much chance to pre-fish
prior to the tournament but did pretty good anyway.
The
tournament was good and not so good. The first day of the
tournament was great with six limits being weighed in with weights of
16.31 for the Lentzs, 16.05 for the Davis', 14.91 for the Pederzanis,
and so forth. The second day of the tournament wasn't so good as
only one limit was weighed in and that was the Trevinos with 8.57
pounds. However, the overall results for the two days ended with
the Davis' taking first place, second place going to the Pederzani's
and third going to the Trevinos. Both Men and Women's Big Bass of the
tournament were caught on the first day of the event. Alice
Lentz took Women's Big Bass honors with 4.72 pounds and Cliff Captures
Men's Big Bass with 4.07. For detailed results and pictures go
to Tournament Results.
There is an old saying,"Winds from the
West is the Best - Wind from the East is the least". I think we
may have proven this to be true as the winds on Saturday were SW early
then from the NNW later in the day. Sundays wind was E all
day. Here is further evidence that this "saying" may be true:

Nevertheless the women out fished the men when it came to big bass. The following pictures speak for themselves:

OTHER NOTABLE EVENTS OF THE WEEK
While
Gail and I were fishing in Sandy Creek the first day of the tournament a
boat from the CBI Tournament approached us and asked if we were with
the Couples tournament. When we said yes they asked us to pass on
their thanks and appreciation to the couple that towed them in the
previous day as their boat was broke down. That couple turned out to be
Brenda and Cliff. It appears they also towed in another boat
earlier in the week. Anyway, Tommy King and Kenneth Ayala send
their thanks to Brenda and Cliff.
The
highlight of the week
had to be at the dinner Saturday night when Robert Brown officially
announced his proposal to Lesli Clark. It was an exciting evening
for the entire club. Robert claimed he caught her and Lesli
claimed she caught him. Guess it doesn't really matter as
they both claimed to have KEEPERS. We also got to celebrate Lesli's
birthday as Allen and Glenda Surprised her with a birthday cake.
Congratulations to both of
you.

The
entire week turned out to be great due to Gails Fahitas and Sausage,
Brenda's Buffet on the motel sidewalk, and dinner with the entire club
on Saturday not to mention all the days we fished. Pre-fishing
always seems to be better than the tournaments themselves. Don't
know why but it is all fun. Hope everyone had as much fun as I
did.
I
was going to add additional photos but am having difficulties with
what to post and what not to post as I have over 120 photos provided by
many of us. Therefore I decided to provide the teams with a CD
allowing you to view all the photos. I hope this is O.K. I
will make one exception as I think everyone will enjoy these two photos
provided by Cliff.
Didn't know there were alligators in Rayburn.
See you at the meeting on April 1st.
